Kenyan doomsday cult leader freed and rearrested

Minutes after being freed by a judge in Malindi, the leader of a Kenyan cult group and six other people were taken back into custody.

Paul Nthenge Mackenzie and his alleged cohorts were sent free by Magistrate Ivy Wasike following the prosecution's request to close the case.

Vivian Kambaga, the state's prosecutor, stated that she preferred that they be tried in a different court on terrorism-related offenses.

They have been sent to Mombasa county, which is located nearby and farther south along the coast.

After more than 100 members of the cult were discovered in mass graves last month, they were initially accused of killing, radicalizing, and endangering public safety.

A post-mortem examination revealed that three of the victims had also been strangled and suffocated to death.
