Senegal ruling party claims legislative poll win

Senegal's governing coalition has declared victory in the nation's parliamentary elections. President Macky Sall.

Aminata Touré, a former prime minister, declared on television that the coalition had a slender legislative majority after winning 30 of the country's 45 administrative departments.

The mayor of the nation's capital, Dakar, who also serves as the head of the main opposition alliance, has disputed the assertion.

It was not Ms. Touré's place to declare the election results, according to Barthelemy Dias.

The opposition aims to prevent President Sall from running for a third term in office.

Despite the constitution's two-term maximum, Mr. Sall has refused to rule out seeking a third term.
