Former Man Utd boss, Jose Mourinho claims he is upset about the lack of consistency from referees following Liverpool’s win over Manchester City on Sunday evening.

Liverpool beat City 3-1 at Anfield thanks to goals from Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Bernardo Silva pulled one back for the hosts at 3-0 but it proved to be only a consolation.

There was controversy surrounding Fabinho’s opener as City thought they should have had a penalty before Liverpool counter-attacked and scored.

The ball struck Reds right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on the arm but VAR deemed it was not in an unnatural position.

City boss Pep Guardiola was left fuming at the decision and made his feelings clear to referee Michael Oliver after the match.

Jose Mourinho argues the worst thing about the decision was that on another day it would have been given a penalty.

“I think we’ve spoken enough about it and I think the main question is just consistency,” Mourinho said on Sky Sports.

“That’s what really upsets me in the game, in this moment, that one weekend it’s not a penalty and next week it’s going to be a penalty. For me that’s the crucial point of it.

“The game was so good and there is so much to speak about the game that I think enough is enough.”

Mourinho admits Manchester City could have prevented Fabinho’s goal but praised the counter-attacking skills of Liverpool.

“Yeah of course [City could have prevented the goal], there’s no doubt about it,” he added.

“And I think everybody knows how strong Liverpool is in these situations, everybody knows how they play and the way they manage to only leave Salah and Mane in privileged positions for these transitions, everybody knows the positions they like to attack and you see the way they score both goals, the second and the third.

“City is too good to be now crying for a week about an incident, they should focus also on the game, what they could do better.”
