Joseph Willock right-footed shot in extra time gave Newcastle United a point at Anfield to deny Liverpool top four access.

The midfielder struck only moments after fellow substitute Callum Wilson had seen a goal overturned following a VAR review for handball by him.

Mohamed Salah had fired Liverpool in front after only three minutes to open the scoring for Liverpool in a Premier League match at Anfield for the first time since 27 December.

Liverpool dominated the first half, with Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Salah all wasting chances to extend their lead.

Joelinton was denied by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on 55 minutes while Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold missed further opportunities for Liverpool, who were made to pay by Willock.

Liverpool climb to sixth on 54 points, one behind Chelsea and West Ham United who play later in the day.

A fourth match without defeat leaves 15th-placed Newcastle nine points clear of the bottom three.
