The usual neglect of legacy which occasions the demise of influential personalities will not be witnessed in the case of the Late President John Evans Atta Mills. Given that the Chairman of the JEAMMH, Honourable Alex Segbefia addressing a press conference on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, disclosed that his outfit was set to compile all President John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lectures from 2013 to 2022 during the final Regional Lecture in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

This, he said will aid the emulation by the youth in any field of interest. According to him, quoting from the Book of 2 Samuel 23:2-4 saying "The spirit of the Lord spoke through me ... When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, he is like the light of the sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain brings the grass from the earth", he said.

Mr. Segbefia added that President John Evans Atta Mills while holding the high office of President of Ghana, saw an opportunity to serve the Almighty God and humanity. "At 1:40 pm on 24 July 2012, the third President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana passed on peacefully. It was a very sad day for Ghana because John Evans Atta Mills is our first President to die whilst in office", he sadly recalled. President John Evans Atta Mills, he noted was a Fulbright scholar to become the President of a country. Recounting his service to humanity, Honourable Segbefia said the late President John Evans Atta Mills taught at the University of Ghana for 25 years and rose to the level of Associate Professor amidst hard work and dedication. Being an avid lover of sports, he said the Late President Mills served as the President of the Amalgamated Sports Club for over 20 years. He also served as the President of the Ghana Universities Sports Association for ten years. "Professor Atta Mills played in the National Hockey Team in the 1970s and for the National Veteran Hockey Team in his twilight years" he further said. In public life, he said President John Evans Atta Mills was a member of the Ghana Stock Exchange Council, Board of Trustees, Mines Trust, Management Committee of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Experts, and the United Nations Ad Hoc Group of Experts in International Cooperation on Tax Matters.

He further added that President Atta Mills became Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, Vice President President of the Republic of Ghana on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress in 1996, and ultimately became President of Ghana.

Sworn in on January 7, 2009, as President of Ghana and served just about 43 months in office as President, died peacefully on July 24, 2012, while in office. He said in a family tribute to President John Evans Atta Mills, that his legacy after five decades of public service has been summarized as follows:

A legacy of commitment to education and the pursuit of excellence, an avid sportsman, a legacy of devotion to the development of the youth through sports, a legacy of deep respect for the political process, and a determination to prove that good and decent people need to be involved in politics to be relevant in policy formulation and implementation and a profound conviction that Ghana could not be transformed without a determined effort to build productive infrastructure.
