Peter Obi, who finished third in Nigeria's presidential election, claims he is under pressure to flee the nation.
Without providing evidence, he asserted that it was part of the government's effort to "divert attention" from "blatantly stolen" elections.
The presidential election results have already been contested by Mr. Obi in Nigeria's top appeals court.
He wrote on Wednesday night, "The attempts to manipulate Nigerians is very sad and wicked.
The presidential race has been compared to a religious conflict in an audio that has been making the rounds in Nigeria purporting to be between Mr. Obi and a religious leader.
The recording, according to Mr. Obi, was a "fake doctored audio call."
He added that the online newspaper that shared the clip would face legal action from his attorneys.
