Nigerian rooster loses court battle over noise complaint

The request was approved by Magistrate Halima Wali on Tuesday, but she gave him a warning to keep the crow from running amok and upsetting the neighborhood's inhabitants, according to the Daily Trust news website.

Nigerian rooster loses court battle over noise complaint

Following a complaint about noise pollution from neighbors, a Nigerian judge has given the owner of a noisy rooster until Friday to kill it, according to local media.

According to two neighbors, the cockerel's constant crowing kept them from sleeping, and the court in the northern city of Kano deemed it a nuisance to the neighborhood, according to the Premium Times news website.

Yusuf Muhammed, one of the neighbors, testified in court that the rooster's crowing violated his right to a sound slumber.

Isyaku Shu'aibu informed the court that he had purchased the bird for use in festivities of Good Friday and requested that it be allowed to live until the Christian holiday before being killed for a family meal.

Additionally, the owner was warned that failing to kill the bird on Friday as pledged would result in punishment.
