Hunger kills someone in East Africa every 48 seconds.

Humanitarian organizations have warned that one person dies every 48 seconds in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia due to extreme hunger brought on by warfare, climate change, and rising food prices.

According to Oxfam and Save the Children, 181 million people will face hunger crises this year around the world, with women bearing the brunt of the burden.

Starvation, according to the organizations, is a political failure.

They accuse the international community of acting too late and with insufficient resources to prevent "cyclical and predictable" disasters.
