Health Alert:Take Interest in your Vaginal Health-Doctor warns

Chief Executive Officer,CEO, of BO Regenerative Medical Clinic located at Pokuase,Dr. Boanerges Kwashie Nkosana Nartey has has cautioned females to take interest in the health of their vaginal.

This, according to him, will enable them detect vaginal infections which include candidiasis.
According to Dr.Nartey who was speaking to Soireenews.com in an exclusive interview,Dr. Nartey emphasized the need for parents to take particular interest in the vaginal health of their children and wards.
According to him, vaginal yeast infection also known as Candidiasis is a fungal infection that causes irritation, discharge and intense itchiness of the vagina and the vulva( the tissues at the vaginal opening).

Dr. Nartey explained that healthy vagina contains bacteria and some yeast cells.
But yeast cells multiply when the balance of bacteria
and yeast changes.

SYMPTOMS

-Vaginal itching and irritation
-A burning sensation during intercourse or while urinating
-Redness and swelling of the vulva
-Vaginal pain and soreness
-Vaginal rash
-Thick, white, odor-free vaginal discharge with a cottage cheese appearance
-Watery vaginal discharge

CAUSES
The fungus Candida is a naturally occurring microorganism in the vaginal area. Lactobacillus bacteria keeps its growth in check.

If there’s an imbalance in your system, these bacteria won’t work effectively. This leads to an overgrowth of yeast, which causes the symptoms of vaginal yeast infections.

"If there’s an imbalance in your system, these bacteria won’t work effectively. This leads to an overgrowth of yeast, which causes the symptoms of vaginal yeast infections", Dr. Nartey intimated.

The  Specialist Doctor disclosed that an

overgrowth of yeast could result from
antibiotic use causing an imbalance in natural vaginal flora,
pregnancy,
uncontrolled diabetes,
a weak immune system,
poor eating habits, including a lot of sugary foods and
hormonal imbalance near menstrual cycle.
The rest are stress, lack of sleep and
taking of oral contraceptives or hormone therapy that increase estrogen levels.

"Excessive antibiotic use,increased estrogen levels,

uncontrolled diabetes and impaired immune system account for vaginal infection",he
noted.

He however stated that wearing cotton underwear,

avoidance of tight-fitting pantyhose,
avoidance of  douching,
avoidance of scented feminine products,
avoid hot tubs and very hot baths and
avoidance of unnecessary antibiotic use can help to mitigate the effects.

He advised that a regular
medical history on
pelvic examination and
vaginal secretion treatment would aid in the prevention of the infection.
