GUTA Commends Alban Bagbin And Parliament for Plan to safeguard the GIPC Act 865 

The Act is to provide for the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre as the agency of Government. It is responsible for the encouragement and promotion of investments in Ghana, to 'provide for the creation of an attractive incentive framework and a transparent, predictable and facilitating environment for investments in Ghana and for related matters.

The Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA) has commended the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana for agreeing to take contingency steps to protect and safeguard the Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act 865.

"The Ghana Union of Traders' Associations wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana for the fruitful discussions we, GUTA and Parliament had on the matter of the statement issued concerning the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act 865 of 2013 by the Rt. Hon. Speaker during his recent visit to Nigeria," the leadership of the GUTA made this commendation in a statement issued on August Sunday 1, 2021.

The statement which was signed and issued by the President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng and copied to Soireenews in Accra indicated that the said meeting was held to clarify the statement of the Rt. Hon. Speaker to the Nigerian Parliament.

According to the statement, the Speaker explained that he was misconstrued on most of the issues raiséd.

It asserted; GUTA has indicated that he did not say, he the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana will amend and remove the One Million US Dollars (US$Im) capital requirement in the GIPC Act in favour of citizens of Nigeria to trade in Ghana.

It further said the Speaker has pointed out that whatever comments made in Nigeria's Parliament was in consonance with the communique' drafted by a joint- Ghana-NigeriaTrade Delegation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The statement averred that the Speaker told the meeting that he graciously and categorically said he had no right to amend the GIPC Act. 

It said the speaker mentioned that he represents the people of Ghana and supports Ghanaian Traders in all sincerity.

Rt. Hon. Speaker, Mr Alban Bagbin added that it was not directed at Ghanaian Traders, to which GUTA apologized. Once more,

"We are very thankful to him and the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana for the clarification and assurance to protect and safeguard the GIPC Act 865,' the statement explained.
