Gunmen abduct dozens of villagers in northern Nigeria

Weapons in the Northwest At least 50 villagers were kidnapped from a community in Nigeria's Katsina State.

The attackers, according to Bakiyawa locals, rode in on motorcycles in the middle of the night.

They then started shooting, leaving one person dead and at least seven others injured.

According to a police spokesperson, security officers and the highly armed militants engaged in combat. However, they were unable to stop the kidnappings.

The police reported that actions were being taken to find the assailants and free the captives.

The home state of President Muhammadu Buhari is Katsina. He is under fire for the Nigerian government's inability to address pervasive insecurity, which includes frequent kidnappings for ransom.
