GRA Finally Imposes Tax  On lotteries, gaming and  betting companies 

Mr. Gyambrah said this Tax was in the  law since 2015 but VAT covered and its implementation was a challenge, but came to the realization on the 2023 budget when government notices that this same law is captured elsewhere whereas they were working with of which the government decided to tax these operators.

The Head of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr Edward Gyambrah has announced that from 15th August 2023, all operators in the lotteries, gaming, and betting companies are to pay a gross gaming revenue tax of 20% from the income they generate to from their business to government. 
Mr. Gyambrah said this Tax was in the  law since 2015 but VAT covered and its implementation was a challenge, but came to the realization on the 2023 budget when government notices that this same law is captured elsewhere whereas they were working with of which the government decided to tax these operators.
According to him, the Gross gaming revenue has started but the lotteries and betting will take effect on the set date.
This he said according to law mandates these operators to fulfill their duties as citizens of the country.
Dr. Gyambrah made announced this at the media engagement to reveal the GRA activities in Accra.
He added that consumers of gaming, betting, and lotteries who are withholding on the winning will also pay a Tax of 10% to the government.
The law he said is set to sanction any operator who fails to comply with these laws. He added that any operator who fails to comply with the license will be revoked.
