Gov't collapsing Private Schools with taxes -GNAPS

Bono Regional President for Ghana National Association of Private School (GNAPS), Peprah Yeboah has accused the government of Ghana of employing tactics to collapse the Private Schools.

According to him, the government has introduced new taxes which will affect the day-to-day running of the schools.

He said they are to pay tax to Environmental Protection Agency EPA and National School Inspectorate Authority NACIA which has never happened before.

He expressed worry over how the government did not engage them before taking such a decision.

The pandemic necessitated the closure of schools for about 10 months.

According to the Ghana National Association of Private Schools, the Greater Accra Region topped the list with 16 collapsed schools.

It was followed by the Northern Region where 13 schools have become non-operational. The Ashanti Region came third with 11 closed schools.

The council said the closure of the educational facilities means an average of 37,800 students has been affected due to the unfortunate development. An average of 2,394 teachers has also become redundant as a result.

Speaking with Soiree  News Bono Regional Correspondent Nana Ama Asiedu, Mr. Peprah Yeboah said the Private School in Ghana has no future.

Notwithstanding, he applauds the government for providing them with PPEs as first-year students go to begin schools today.
