The government has dismissed reports that a decision has been arrived at, to sanction persons who refuse to to take the COVID-19 vaccine in Ghana.

The Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, reacting to some media reportage which had  suggested he announced so, clarified that no decision whatsoever has been taken. 

"The attention of the Ministry of Informatino has been drawn to false publication ny a number of reputable online portals and newspapers to the effect that Government will sanction persons who refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine." a statement from the Ministry of Information, dated March 10, 2021, signed and issued by the Public Relations Officer, Munira Karim said

"The said reportage is false. Government has neither taken nor announced any such decision."

"For the avoidance of doubt, below is the quotation of the remarks by the Minister for Information at the a press briefing in Peduase on Monday March 8, 2021 when asked about whether or not sanctions will be imposed on persons who refused the COVID-19 vaccines." it added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said over 200,000 individuals have so far taken the vaccine in the country.

The vaccination exercise began a week ago with the President, Vice President and their families taking the first jab.

Addressing the media on Monday, March 8 2021, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye disclosed that 220,252 are on record to have been vaccinated.
