The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency and a former Deputy Attorney General, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine has said that the Ghanaian media is demonstrating bias against the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama in checking and reporting on corruption.

According to the lawmaker, corruption perceptions were heavily sunk in the minds of Ghanaians by the media through consistent broadcasts of investigative documentaries under the former president as compared to the current, Nana Addo's government.

Dr Ayine argued that the media which were expected to act in their capacity as a fourth state of the realm demonstrated bias in the discharge of their duties.

“In fact, in 2015, 2016 anytime I had engagements with neutrals, lawyers, bankers and businesspeople about our government, they always say you guys did well in terms of road infrastructure, building hospitals etc but your government is very corrupt.

"And I asked them if they could give me an example of corruption. They named Guinea fowls that flew to Burkina-Faso, GYEEDA, SADA.

"All these were a result of the media. The Ghanaian media is a reason why we are where we are in the country today,” he said.

Responding to a question about why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) couldn’t seize the opportunity prior to election 2020 to drum loud purported acts of corruption under the Nana Addo government, Dr Ayine said the media denied the NDC the opportunity to do so since most of the major media establishments in Ghana are inclined to the New Patriotic Party.

Mr Ayine further argued that Civil Society Organizations have not been vocal on matters of corruption under the Nana Addo government as compared to the erstwhile Mahama government.
