The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) Africa, an international non-governmental organization that focuses on access to justice, had asked the police for the information, and Ghana's Right to Information Commission had instructed the police to comply.

In a statement, the commission claimed that the police had broken the law and imposed an administrative fee that they must pay within 14 days.

Additionally, it claimed that the police had violated the right to obtain information. If they don't comply, there will be an additional 10% penalty interest.

A number of reports of brutality and rights violations against people, especially journalists, have brought the police under intense scrutiny and condemnation.

Most of the time, police officers are hardly ever held accountable, maintaining a climate of impunity.
