Controversy king, Guru has called for an in-depth investigation into the affairs of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

According to the rapper, the royalties collection agency has been cheating musicians over the past few years.

This is the latest in the series of attacks that GHAMRO has been facing from different artistes who have lamented that the only thing the agency is good for is to embezzle funds meant for artistes. The musicians also claim that the agency has failed to address the list of concerns affecting musicians in the country.

Guru said this while speaking in an interview on Rainbow Entertainment

“When was the last time I was given royalties? I don’t remember. These are the things we need to address. We need to do proper checks. Do you know we have a system that helps to track the number of times songs are played, but GHAMRO has abandoned this system because it will expose their corrupt activities? This is what must be investigated.” he stated.

His words echo the sentiments of musician Akosua Agyapong who accused GHAMRO's Chairman, Rex Omar, as being the “worst GHAMRO Chairman ever.”

“When Carlos was in charge, you (Rex Omar) were on social media platforms criticizing, and so, we thought given the chance, you will do better. Rather the situation is gone from bad to worse…As for Rex, I will say it again and again that among all of them, Rex is the worst GHAMRO chairman ever.”

Ghanaian highlife artiste, Kwaisey Pee also effectively highlighted the ineffectiveness of GHAMRO by reflecting on an instance where he was paid GH¢100 as royalties.

"Those times I was given GH¢100 cheque to go to the bank and withdraw. That is ridiculous because if you look at the idea, time, and energy I put in my work, and you come claiming your royalties and they give you GH¢100, it’s so disheartening,” he said during an interview with Lemy Lomotey on 'Lalafio'.

“When I was in Europe, I had the chance to sign a contract with a distribution label. All my songs are on iTunes and stuff where I get my quarterly revenue,” he concluded.

He disclosed that the largest amount he has received as royalties cannot even pay for his basic amenities.

"The last and most money I received from GHAMRO is GH¢1,200 and that was even several years back,” he stated.
