GES Set Aside Akropong School for the Blind Headmistress 

The Headmistress of Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Madam Mahela Narh, has been interdicted by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Her interdiction is over the alleged misappropriation of school funds and Donations received from philanthropist insubordination, and other alleged corrupt activities.

The students of the school on Thursday, May 13, 2021, accused the headmistress of misappropriation of funds, poor quality and quantity of students meals, poor Academic performance in both the SHS and the Basic School, inadequate teaching staff and accommodation, adding that donations from philanthropist are been misapplied by the headmistress among other challenges confronting the students.

Reports gathered by Soiree News Eastern regional correspondent William Ofori, suggests that the teachers have submitted copies of insubordination, and inhumane acts by the headmistress of the school against most teachers of both SHS and the Basic School and the harassment suffered by the basic school pupils under Madam Mahela Narh.

However, the information continues that a statement has been issued by GES, dated Monday, May 17, 2021, signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit, GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, noted that the headmistress is to step aside for the Regional Director of Education to take over the administration of the school while the management of the GES investigates the circumstances that led to the demonstration of the virtual impaired student of the school on Thursday, May 13, 2021.

The information revealed that a meeting was convened by the GES yesterday Monday, May 17, 2021, in the school assembly hall brought together all students, old students association representative, and all teaching as well as non-teaching staff to calm down tension amongst aggrieved students and to ascertain the problems confronting the school.
