The arrival of over Five hundred thousand additional Free Senior High School first-year beneficiaries to be posted to the existing Senior High Schools will aggravate the load crisis which requires urgent attention.

Some teachers of Senior High Schools in the Eastern Region revealed to SN24 News in anonymity that the entrance of over 500,000 students to be enrolled into form one this coming 10th of March 2021 will parade congestion in dormitories and classrooms.

According to the teachers, students are unable to stand the heat in the dormitories normally sleep on the verandas due to congestion."

One of the teachers said over 900 students completed in his school last year but 2nd and 3rd years have a population of two thousand four hundred so estimated at one thousand two hundred each.

He added that if one thousand two hundred are posted to his school, there shall be a deficit of 300 students and without the run of double track, there is a possibility of congestion.

He lamented that the government dormitory project which is about 70% completion has been abandoned.

A 12-unit storey classroom block has been abandoned by a contractor for some months but if these buildings are completed before the arrival of the form ones, the school can accommodate more than four thousand students at a time without the double-track system, he stressed.

He charges the placement authority to reconsider posting children from Accra to be day students in the Eastern Region.

The teachers however called on the government to speed up ongoing dormitories in order to accommodate the overpopulated students in the region.
