Trunk Road washed away by Flood

The trunk road in the upper west region has been washed away as a result of floods.

The road which connects several districts to the regional capital Wa has been cut off leaving travellers stranded. Portions of the road in between Wa and Nadoli has been washed off as a result of a continuous eight-hour downpour.

The road links Wa Municipality to Nadoli-Kaleo district to Jirapa Municipality to Lawra Municipality to Nandom Municipality through to Labussie district and Burkina Faso.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Hon Dr Hafiz Bin Salih with officials of the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO on Sunday, August 15, 2021, visited the affected area to ascertain the level of destruction and however forwarded the report to the national level for urgent response.

According to the Roads and Highways Minister, the situation must be treated as a state of emergency to get it fixed in due time. But from the looks of the level of the water, it might not drain anytime soon.

The Regional Director of NADMO, Hon Ahmed said his outfit is still assessing the level of destruction caused by the floods.

Farmers who have their farms around the area had their farms submerged.
