The Krokobite Chief Fisherman in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Asaase Ayitey II, has complained about the stress on their fishing expedition activities as a result of their bad roads and have appealed to the government of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to repair them.
According to him, the Kotia and Lumbashie  roads which are linking to the Krokobite landing beach were full of potholes and this made drivers especially, commercial ones often try to dodge, putting the lives of fishers and local fish moguls in danger.
He lamented that some of fish moguls most of the time ended up with stale fishes because they could not pay the fares to get their fishes to their customers, and this had made their customers resort to other fish mongers.
Nii Asaase Ayitey II noted that movement on the t roads were extremely difficult and dangerous especially as the roads become muddy and slippery anytime it rains.
Particularly for the fishers, they raised concerns that their fishs were not mostly patronised because of the bad roads, rendering most of the fishers in the community deserted.
Nii Asaase Ayitey II expressed these sentiments when he was speaking in an interview with Soireenews. com to outline some major challenges facing the fishers in Krokobite landing beach after the opening of fishing season.
He  stated the current use of super fuel (formerly known as Light Fuel and Schmoylent) by Artisanal fishers around Krokobite landing beach to go the fishing expedition duel to irregular supply of premix fuel by the government through the National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC) is adversely affecting majority of the Artisanal fishers.

He maintained that the super fuel is very expensive, adding that many Artisanal fishers in Krokobite and its adjoining communities could not afford to buy the products at its cost for their fishing activities.

Nii Asaase Ayitey II pointed out the current challenge facing the fishers in Krokobite landing beach is that they don't have premix fuel for their fishing activities due to shortage of fuel.
According to him, for the past three months now, fisher folks and boat operators in the Krokobite have not received premix fuel for their operations, marking the thousands of the artisanal fishers to resort to buy super fuel to go their fishing expedition.
He lamented that the fishers complained to him that the shortage has adversely affected their fishing activities and called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make
He also expressed worry about the situation in the area and therefore called on the National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC) and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MOFA) to ensure regular flow of the premix fuel.
Currently, he maintained that most of the fishermen have to struggle to get some of the premix fuel before they could go fishing and have had to resort to buying supper or petrol and engine oil at a higher cost to work.
“The fishing activities are dying due to the shortage of premix fuel and thus affecting the living standards of the people in the Krokobite coastal area and making it difficult for them to make a living,” the Chief Fisherman complained.
According to him, the short supply of the commodity, mismanagement and the sharp decline in fish catch over the years have increased hardship in fishing communities.
“Already, there is a shortage, the little that comes is highly politicised, the culture of politicising everything is getting out of hands, we need to be treated equally after all it is not for free,” Nii Asaase Ayitey II, said this in an interview with Soireenews com.
He said it was unfortunate many fishers have not been able go for fishing expeditions since the opening of fishing season because of the short supply of fuel at Krokobite landing beach.
The Krokobite Chief Fisherman was worried about the politics in the sale of the fuel which he noted had remained the driving force behind the mismanagement of premix fuel.
He said fuel supply and its related issues was a serious threat to the successful implementation of the 2022 opened fishing season.
“We look forward to the planned automation of the distribution and sale of premix fuel by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development to bring relief”
“We also appeal to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, and the National Premix Committee to as a matter of urgency, engage the LBCs, investigate them and take the necessary action,” he further added.
"We are also appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take a critical look at the deplorable nature of the two major roads leading to the Krokobite landing beach and come to their aid to reshape or construct the roads for us," he stressed.
