The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has described Family Health University College (FHUC) as one of the private educational institutions in Ghana that stands tall in Africa and the Sub-region with excellence in promoting ethics and professionalism.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has described Family Health University College (FHUC) as one of the private educational institutions in Ghana that stands tall in Africa and the Sub-region with excellence in promoting ethics and professionalism.

He said they have also raised the bar in some critical skills and imbibed in student Doctors with essential critical morals and social values.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour made this statement during the  Family Health University College (FHUC) 2022 Matriculation and Graduation ceremony of Family Health Medical School (FHMS) and Family Health School of Nursing & Midwifery (FHNMS) respectively held in Accra, opposite Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre at Teshie.

The two sessions of the Matriculation and Graduation ceremony of Family Health Medical School (FHMS) and Family Health School of Nursing & Midwifery (FHNMS), were held separately due to the large number of students involved.

The Family Health Medical School (FHMS) ceremony was held in the morning session with 41 students been graduated with BSC in Medical Sciences and, matriculated 59 freshmen and women.


The Family Health Nursing & Midwifery School (FHNMS) ceremony, on the other hand,  took place in the afternoon session with graduated students of 68 Nursing Assistant Clinical (NAC) and 257 freshmen and women comprising 200 for BSC Nursing and Midwifery programs and 57 for NAC program.


Rev. John Ntim Fordjour commended Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume and Dr. Susu Bridget Kwawukume for their visionary leadership for the past 7 years but making strives and standing tall among those who have been around for decades.

"Today, we celebrate the success of Family Health University College. This school is standing tall not only in Africa but the Sub-region as one of the institutions with the center of excellence that is promoting ethics, promoting professionalism that is not only raised in some of the critical skills but also, imbibe in their students, the social values that are very critical".

The medical profession he mentioned, saves a life, calls for sacrifice, and gives opportunities and hope to many that is a desire to become medical Doctors.

FHUC the Deputy Minister for Education pointed out, has contributed significantly to the improvement of Doctor to patient ratio which used to be 1 Doctor to 9,000 patient ratios but now is, 6355 patients shearing a Doctor in Ghana.
"Although we ranked 4th by World Bank in West Africa in respect to Doctor to patient ratio, we are still number 14 in South Saharan Africa"-

He averred that the government is producing and creating an enabling environment that would ensure that, the private sector strived and expanded to train many medical practitioners to ensure that the country gets to the required level.

Government the Deputy Minister stated, is engaging stakeholders to implement a medicine program designed for those who entered into the various pre-tertiary schools and wanted to become Doctors but their dreams have been shut down because they were not having science in secondary school. A year pre-medicine program is also at the consultation stage and in due course, when we unveil this, the opportunity would also be given.


On his part, the Founder and President of Family Health University College, Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume advisee the matriculants to remain resolute, listen to their lecturers, work in teams, and above all, strive to be successful in all things through lifelong learning.

To the graduates, Prof. Kwawukume said he is hopeful that they would have exciting and impactful clinical years and encouraged them not to be afraid to make mistakes but keep working hard in hand and they would succeed.

"The Family Health University College is so proud of your achievements. As you begin the Clinical phase of the medical program, I entreat you to use the opportunity to sharpen the skills learned in the classroom and build exceptional work ethics. Be committed to inquiry and empathy. Let the School’s values reflect in your actions and inactions."


He also encouraged the matriculants of  FHNMS to strive for excellence and be disciplined.

"You should carefully apportion the time you spend on your books, on social engagements, and social media. Be analytical, and learn how to question received wisdom in a refined manner. Your primary aim for coming here is to study and I urge you to channel your energies in that direction."

Prof Kwawukume urged the graduands to remember that it is their talents, knowledge, and hard work that brought them to the school.
"These will pay off in the years to come.  In my experience so far in life and career, the most rewarding and meaningful moments have come not from only using my talent or my knowledge but rather, from learning to summon the courage and making the best out of opportunities. Be bold, firm, and assertive."

The Medical School has since graduated 2 batches of students with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degrees; the first batch of 30 students graduated in 2020, whilst the second batch of 54 graduated in 2021.

All the graduates have been inducted into the medical profession by the Medical and Dental Council. It suffices to mention that out of the 454 graduates who were inducted by the Medical and Dental Council, this year, 54 were from the Family Health Medical School.

The Management of Family Health University College is working fervently towards obtaining a Presidential Charter. A roadmap has been carefully planned and is being executed, and we humbly request all our stakeholders to support us in achieving this dream
