FDA Warns Public On Reusable Plastic Containers

The Bono regional director for Food and Drugs Authority, Madam Akua Amponsah Owusu has advised the general public to desist from consuming plastic bottles as it poses a serious health threat to them.

Speaking in an interview with Soiree news Rosemond Kissiwaa, was unhappy how some merchants resort to packaging their products in used plastic containers saying the FDA and the Ghana Standards Authority have over the years been working hard to curb such inappropriate actions.
This comes after one Janet Ameyaa was sighted selling used bottles to local juice producers at the Nana Bosoma Market.
A woman in her late 50s Janet Ameyaa has been sighted washing used bottles and selling them at the Sunyani Wednesday market.
This poses as a healthy treat as some use it to repackage consumables like Ice Kenkey, Hibiscus juice (Sobolo), and others.
Speaking in an interview with Soiree news, Madam Jannet sighted lack of financial Support to aid her with the upkeep of her children as her reason for resulting in the gathering of the waste plastics.
She was however quick to add that she does not intend to sell to food vendors.
Madam Janet Ameyaa said her target customers are those who buy them for recycling, who mainly come from Kumasi to buy them, adding that sales have not been good lately as they don’t show up at all.
But reacting to this, the Bono FDA boss said the Authority arrested some people in the past at Sunyani New town who were engaging in such activities.
Madam Amponsah warned the general public or will face the wrath of the FDA.
She said,  “these merchants do not perform any proper hygienic measure before reselling the used bottles.  We are therefore advising producers to buy the fresh and sealed bottles rather”.
