Family due to meet jailed British-Egyptian activist

For the first time since he stopped drinking water earlier this month, the mother and sister of famed incarcerated British-Egyptian writer and democratic activist Alaa Abdel Fattah are scheduled to visit him later on Thursday.

He sent a note to his family on Tuesday informing them that he had ended the April hunger strike and would explain everything on their subsequent monthly visit.

Although this was never permitted, Mr. Abdel Fattah denied food in the hopes that it would at least assist him to get a visit from British diplomats.

Britain has demanded his immediate release along with several other nations.
