Climate change caused Nigeria 'worst floods' - study

According to a recent study, climate change significantly exacerbated the torrential rains that led to widespread flooding in vast portions of Nigeria and Niger this year, killing hundreds of people.

The two countries noted that these floods were the worst ever.

According to a report by World Weather Attribution, flooding from June to October was caused by excessive seasonal rainfall and the release of water from dams.

They found that climate change increased the likelihood of the incident by 80 times.

Over half a million hectares of farmland were destroyed by the floods, along with nearly 1.5 million displaced people and hundreds of thousands of destroyed homes.
