700 senior high schools to wifi services, Fact check Ghana thinks otherwise

Fact check Ghana refutes Bawumia's 700 schools wifi claims

Contrary to Ghana's vice president, H.E. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia's claims of having connected some 700 senior high schools to wifi services, Fact check Ghana thinks otherwise.

According to Fact-Check Ghana, information obtained from the Ghana Education Service(GES) indicated that as of March 10, 2022, the government's  Wi-Fi project had ended in some 663 schools nationwide while the remaining beneficiary schools received the same in 2021 instead.
Thus, rendering Dr. Bawumia's repeated claim since 2021, inaccurate.

"For the first time in our history, the Government has provided free Wi-Fi to over 700 senior high schools, 42 colleges of education, and 13 Public Universities", Dr. Bawumia said.
But, Fact Check Ghana has refuted the same referring to the claim as inaccurate.

It would be recalled that on April 7, 2022, where the veep claimed some 700 senior high schools had benefited from the government's Wi-Fi project.

Ahead of the general election particularly on September 30, 2020, the veep in an interview with an Accra-based Asempa FM said at least 80% of all SHSs in the country had been provided with free Wi-Fi.
That claim had been proven to be inaccurate according to the Ghana Education Service(GES).
Rather, according to GES, Fact check Ghana noted that the total number of Senior High/ Technical Vocational schools in Ghana at the end of 2020 was 724 therefore 80% represented only 579 schools as of the year 2020.
According to Fact-Check Ghana, the data received from GES was 523 schools that had rather been connected.

Given that, Fact-Check Ghana has detailed on a regional basis of beneficiaries as:
Ashanti Region - 100

Brong Ahafo Region-80
Central Region-75
Eastern Region-94
Greater Accra Region-49
Western Region-53
Volta Region-87
Northern Region-55
Upper East- 37
Upper West-33
Total -663

In conclusion, Fact-Check Ghana disclosed that contrary to the 700 schools quoted by the veep as having been connected to the wifi as of March 10, 2022, only 663 were connected.
That, it indicated made the Vice president, H. E. Alhaji Dr. Bawumia's claims inaccurate.
