Expedite Investigations into Burning Of 5000 Acres Cashew, other farms  in Banda - Best Female Farmer to Attorney General

The 2021 National Best Female Farmer, Mrs. Helena Awurusa has asked the security agencies through the office of the Attorney General to expedite investigations into the destruction of over 5,000 acres of cashew farms and other foodstuffs in the Banda District of the Bono Region somewhere in January this year.

Speaking to Soiree News Nana Anfreh Damanata on a telephone interview Mrs. Awurusa said two suspects have been arrested by the police in connection to that effect.

According to her, her attention has been drawn that police have sent the docket to the office of the Attorney General for advice but have since not heard anything about it.

"Justice delayed is justice denied to set as a deterrent to others not to engage in such activities I want Attorney General to expedite investigations into the situation to bring justice.

The incident which occurred in January this year destroyed more than 5,000 farmers in 24 communities in the Banda district.

She added that she almost 20 acres of palm, coconut, and cashew plantation in the fire outbreaks that occurred in January this.

She said almost all the affected farmers used their farms and properties as collateral to access loans to engage in commercial plantation of cashew and other cash crops.

The 2021 National best female farmer noted that people are anticipating a severe food shortage due to the extensive destruction of the farms and therefore appealed for food aid to the affected farmers.

She also appealed for financial aid from the government.
