The suspect involved in the attempted money ritual at Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region has been denied bail by the Sunyani Magistrate Court ‘B’ presided over by His Worship Joojo Amoah Hagan.

Benjamin Adjei, 23 was on May 15, 2021, arrested for allegedly attempting to use his nephew Listowel Adjei 13, for money rituals upon a tipoff from a citizen informant.

The defence lawyer, Frimpong Boamah prayed the court to grant the suspect bail as he was ready to bring him to court for a hearing whenever the case is called.

Lawyer Frimpong argued that the earlier reason given to the court by the prosecuting officer not to grant the bail request on the basis of impeding processes was not tangible.

He also said his client was prepared to comply with all the conditions if granted bail. But the police prosecuting officer, Sgt. Eric Agyenim Boateng maintained that the release of the suspect will be a threat to the victim and hamper the smooth processes of the case, thus opposed the bail request of the defence counsel.

He also told the court his outfit was still waiting for advice from the Attorney-General. His Worship Joojo Amoah Hagan upon hearing from the two sides rejected the defence request and adjourned the case to July 2, 2021, as the suspect remains in prison custody.
