EC to Work with Security Agencies to Deal with Overcrowding at Registration Centres

The Electoral Commission says it is taking immediate steps to deal with the incidence of overcrowding at voter registration centres, following the commencement of the exercise yesterday.

A statement from the EC yesterday said, the commission will collaborate with security agencies to ensure that numbers at centres are properly managed.

“The commission is aware that some centres recorded high numbers leading to some overcrowding. We are taking steps to work with the Security Agencies to address possible overcrowding at our Registration centres” the statement said.

The EC however noted that, a particular photograph circulating on social media showing large crowds at one of its registration centres is false.

The EC said the photograh does not indicate the exact registration centre it was supposedly taken, therefore, called on the public to disregard it.

The commission also clarified that, in contrast to speculations, persons who guarantee more than 10 persons in the registration exercise will not be disenfranchised but prosecuted in the EC's terms.
