Calls have been mounted on the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to, immediately scrap all "PLETHORA TAXES ON DRIVERS."

Speaking on Onua FM monitored by Soireenews on Monday, August 2, 2021, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the True Drivers Union, Mr Yaw Barima on behalf of the drivers issued a two days ultimatum to the government to scrap the above-mentioned taxes off or face our wrath.

He stressed that the failure of the government to heed their call would compel them to join the incoming demonstration of the #FixTheCountry people.

According to him, the members of the True Drivers Union and National Concerned Drivers Association were not happy about the total neglect of the Minister of Finance Mr Ken Ofori-Atta to add their concerns in the recent mid-year review budget he submitted to the Parliament.

"As drivers Union, there was no single relief that the Minister mentioned in this budget which was related us.

"In fact, we were expecting the government to scrap some irrelevant taxes draining us, such as the Energy recovery tax, special petroleum tax, fuel margin and the likes," he noted.

According to him, the drivers were expecting that in the mid-year review with the view that the minister will come with something that will cushion "us after imposing all these plethoras of taxes, he still wants drivers to suffer, so he maintained the taxes. "

Amidst all these killer taxes, Mr Barima noted that "we drive on bad roads with potholes and manholes coupled with darkness on our major highways due to faulty street lights."

"We are giving the government two days ultimatum to the government to scrap the above-mentioned taxes off or face our wrath.

"This time we are ready to face any institution which decides to block us, we will hit the roads with nationwide demonstration," he stated.

To this end, the PRO called on all drivers unions and associations to join the fix the country demonstration coming 4th August.
