The District Chief Executive of Dormaa West District Assembly in the Bono Region, Mr. Francis Kwadwo Oppong has warned those who would be engaged in the mass cocoa spraying exercise this year not to adopt the "whom you know" attitude but should give equal treatment to every cocoa farmer.

According to the DCE, they don't want to hear any news of the neglect of any cocoa farm of the exercise, saying that they want this year's national mass cocoa spraying exercise program to be done by the gangs in a transparent manner and devoid of any news of discrimination.

"We don't want to hear any complaints that
some farmers who do not have cocoa farms claimed they owned farms and received the chemicals and fuel products and materials," he stressed.
Mr. Opong issued the warning when he was addressing the Dormaa West District cocoa mass sprayers at a meeting organized by the Dormaa West District Cocoa Health Extension Division at Nkrankwanta held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

The meeting was attended by the Dormaa West District Cocoa Officer, Mr. David Afriyie, the Coordinator of Cocoa Pest and Disease Control (CODAPEC), Mr. Samuel Kambigs, and the Coordinator of Productivity Enhancement, Mr. Eric Owusu Poku was aimed at discussing some pressing issues with the District cocoa mass sprayers before they start their exercise.

He thanked the sprayers (gangs) for the work they had done to spray cocoa farms in the Dormaa West District which is the largest cocoa growing community in the Bono Region, saying the impact of the mass praying program on cocoa production in the district is very positive.

He entreated the gangs to be transparent, very professional, respect the rights of the cocoa farmers and perform their work devoid of extortion of money from the beneficiary cocoa farmers.
He noted that he was not armed with chair DCE and that he would be actively involved in many projects and programs that would be carried out within his jurisdiction and promised to support the spraying team to spray the farmers to achieve the targeted results.
He stated that a lot has been said about the mass cocoa sprayers in the area, saying that the discussions they made about them whether is true or not it has an effect on the general lives of the mass cocoa sprayers.
He tasked them to make this year's exercise successful devoid of any complaints.
He assured that he would support the Dormaa West District cocoa mass sprayers tensure effective monitoring and supervision of the current cocoa mass spraying exercise program in the district to ensure that the real farmers benefit from the national exercise.
He stated that some gangs and farmers allegedly colluded to divert most of the chemicals and fuel products supplied to some districts.

The DCE stressed that the government is poised to ensure cocoa production was increased to attract more foreign support to boost the industry, adding that farmers’ motivation and other assistance are being pursued.

He stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government would give the needed support to the cocoa farmers hence the supply of fertilizers and other chemicals at subsidized prices.

The DCE hinted that he would continue to support the gangs to facilitate effective monitoring and supervision of the program which aimed at increasing cocoa production.
