Diabetes, Hypertension leading cause of death in Bono East- Health Directorate

The Bono East Regional Health Directorate has held it's Holistic Assessment of the Health Sector Performance for the year 2021 at Kintampo. At the meeting which saw all Stakeholders in the Health Sector from all over the Bono East region attending, it emerged that Hypertension and Diabetes were on the rise amongst it's populace.

The Bono East Regional Health Directorate has held its Holistic Assessment of the Health Sector Performance for the year 2021 at Kintampo.

At the meeting which saw all Stakeholders in the Health Sector from all over the Bono East region attending, it emerged that Hypertension and Diabetes were on the rise amongst its populace.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Director-General of Health Services, a deputy director Dr. Anthony Fosu said the Bono East Health Directorate has improved upon its performance as compared to the previous year 2020.

The Bono East Regional Health Director Dr. Fred Adomako  Boateng made it known to Soiree News correspondent Nana Anfreh Damanata, that the Directorate has come out with a program scheduled for every last Friday of the month to screen every individual in the region on Hypertension and Diabetes beginning with Health workers to reduce the high rate of the disease which has become a silent killer


Finally, Mr. George Padmore Mensah Chief Director at the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council said his outfit is doing its best to help improve health delivery in the region and also supports the idea of screening people on Hypertension and Diabetes.

The number of people with diabetes rose from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014. Prevalence has been rising more rapidly in low- and middle-income countries than in high-income countries.

A healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining normal body weight, and avoiding tobacco use are ways to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes can be treated and its consequences avoided or delayed with diet, physical activity, medication, and regular screening and treatment for complications.
High blood pressure often has no symptoms. Over time, if untreated, it can cause health conditions, such as heart disease and stroke.
