Darren Bent has advised Liverpool to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season else, the Champions will not be able to defend their title due to the lack of squad depth.

According to the former English player, there are a lot of tired legs in the Liverpool squad after an impressive run last season; amassing 99 points with an 18 point lead.

Liverpool lost the Community Shield over the weekend having leveled the scores when they were down by a goal.

Klopp paraded his best 11 for the game apart from Trent Arnold Alexander who was replaced by Neco Williams following his injury recovery. Mane, Salah, and Firmino were in the squad yet it took Minamino to come from the bench to score the Red's only goal as the game traveled to a penalty shootout.

“The thing is with Liverpool, 1 to 11 they’ve got a very good team and deservedly won the Premier League… but they haven’t added to it,” Bent said on Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast.

“You’ve got Thiago, I would have thought that would be a transfer Liverpool would have desperately done!

“Watching Liverpool against Arsenal, to me in certain areas they looked really tied, so I think Jurgen Klopp needs to address that sooner rather than later.

“I’ve heard people say ‘how can you improve on that 11… who can you bring in to make them better?’

“Well, I just think they need more strength in depth.

“If you look at Manchester City, if Raheem Sterling is not playing well, they can replace him with Riyad Mahrez or Bernardo Silva – there’s no real drop off in quality.

“But you’re not telling me that when Salah is not playing well and they bring on Minamino, the levels are too different.

“I know Minamino scored at the weekend and it was his first Liverpool goal, but for me, he is nowhere near the player Salah is!”

Liverpool’s competitors seem busy in the market but the few linked with the Reds – Thiago and Sarr seem doubtful after no concrete deal seems to have been submitted by the Reds.

Although Klopp has not ruled additions, yet the Reds complaints have been about finance to purchase new players, having been affected by the three months coronavirus break.
