African Methodist Episcopal Basic School in the Akwatia in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region of Ghana has suffered daily shit bomb for the past 5 years according to the Assistant Headmistress of the school, Madam Betty Azure.

According to her, the defecation in the classrooms and compound has hit its highest ever for the past 2 weeks, which has necessitated the sudden temporally closer of the school until further notice.

She lamented, that the cleaning of human faeces has become a daily routine exercise for the school pupil because there is no single day that the students or the school authorities would not identify one or more human excreta in the compound and in some classrooms too.

Madam Betty opined that the Assembly Member has turned a death ear to all their calls to help find an antidote to this inhuman behaviour amongst some residents.

This prompted the school to demonstrate and presented their petition to the District Director of education, who issued a closer noticed to the school authorities until the community are able to advise their residents to put stop to it.

She added, that until the residents help to resolve this menace of defecations in the compound, the school remains closed.

Madam Betty emphasized, that "all efforts to resolve this bad behaviour has yielded no better results as a letter was written by the Parent-Teacher Association(PTA) to the chief of Akwatia, Assembly Member and other opinion leaders are yet to end this canker and the defecation has rather increased for the past 14 days so we have no alternative than to boycott teaching and learning until further notice."

On the part of the students, they are tired of sweeping human excreta and faeces of marijuana smokers and added that they are there to learn to become medical doctors but not public toilet attendants, she stressed.

In addition, a graduate from the school named Joana Somiah also affirmed that that was the trend from 2006-2009 before they left school. No effort was made at that time to avoid such inhuman activity.
