COVID-19: Nigeria Records Over 1,300 New Infections In A Single Day

According to NCDC, 92705 cases have been confirmed, 76396 cases have been discharged and 1319 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Hours after the country hit its highest daily count with 1,204 COVID-19 infections, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported a new single-day record of cases with over 1,300 fresh samples confirmed positive.

A total of 1,354 new cases were recorded across 20 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) in the NCDC’s update for January 5, 2021.

Lagos, which recorded the newest cases, confirmed 712 infections, its highest daily count ever.

FCT had the second-highest number of new cases with 145 infections, followed by Plateau with 117.

According to the health agency, one person was confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Tuesday, increasing the fatality toll to 1,319.

NCDC tweeted: ''On the 5th of January 2021, 1354 new confirmed cases and 1 death was recorded in Nigeria.

''Till date, 92705 cases have been confirmed, 76396 cases have been discharged and 1319 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 1354 new cases are reported from 21 states- Lagos (712), FCT (145), Plateau (117), Kwara (81), Kaduna (54), Sokoto (39), Oyo(38), Rivers (37), Gombe (21), Enugu (20), Akwa Ibom (16), Bauchi (14), Delta (14), Ebonyi (13), Anambra (9), Taraba (8), Edo (8), Kano (3), Osun (2), Ekiti (2) and Ogun (1).

Meanwhile, the latest numbers bring Lagos state total confirmed cases to 32,687, followed by Abuja (12,428), Kaduna (5,555), Plateau (5,174),  Oyo (4,086), Rivers (3,639), Edo (2,938), Ogun (2,564), Kano (2,367), Delta (1,911), Ondo (1,843), Katsina (1,636), Kwara (1,495), Enugu (1,420),  Gombe (1,359), Ebonyi (1,120), Bauchi (1,052), Abia (1,036), Osun (1,022),  and Nasarawa (923).

Borno State has recorded 808 cases, Imo (769), Bayelsa (545),  Benue (537), Akwa Ibom (465), Adamawa (424), Sokoto (420), Ekiti (417), Niger (417), Jigawa (407),  Anambra (337), Taraba (225), Yobe (201), Kebbi (192), Cross River (169),  Zamfara (112), while Kogi state has recorded 5 cases only.
