Court remands Businessman, 39, into police custody  for defrauding by false pretence

 A businessman is standing criminal trials at the Ashaiman circuit court for defrauding by false pretence contrary to section 131 of the criminal offences Act 1960, Act 29.

Stephen Asare Ackah, in the month of March 2022 at Ashaiman Lebanon and within the jurisdiction of the court, with intent to defraud, did obtain the consent of one Aperigi Bukari to part with cash sum of GHS 45,000.00 by means of certain false representation.

The court presided over by His Honour Simon Gaga declined bail and remands Stephen Asare Ackah into Police custody. Case adjourned to 30/06/2023 for mention.

Presenting the brief fact as investigated by D/Const. Emmanuel Agyapong, the prosecutor,Chief Inspector Samual Aperweh told the court that the complainant in the case is Aperigi Bukari, a driver aged 41 whereas the accused person Stephen Asare Ackah is a businessman aged 39.

Chief Inspector Samual Aperweh told the court that on the 9th June,2023, complainant called at the Ashaiman Divisional CID and reported that in the March 2022, the accused person collected cash sum of GHS45,000.00 from him at Lebanon a suburb of Ashaiman under the pretext of supplying complainant with black oil.

He told the court that the accused person however failed and went into hiding at Daboase in the Western Region.

That the accused person switched off all his known telephone numbers making it difficult for complainant to reach him.

Through intelligence efforts of the Police at Ashaiman and Daboase, he told the court, the accused person was arrested.

During investigations, accused person confessed having committed the offence and volunteered statement on caution.

Investigations further disclosed that accused person used part of the collected to buy Ford Ranger with registration number GW- 2167-09, that same is parked at Takoradi in the Western Region. He said efforts are underway to retrieve same and present to the court.

After investigations, the accused person was charged with the offence and arraigned before this honourable court.
