The Mpasatia Zongohene in the Ashanti Region, Chief Abdulai Mohammed, has expressed disappointment in the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for not ensuring fair
fair distribution of cocoa seedlings in the country.
“We acknowledge the government for the increment in the farm gate cocoa price but one thing is that, the Ghana Cocoa Board has snubbed us this year [2023] when distributing the cocoa nursery, we were not told earlier to buy our own seedlings so waited and to our surprised, they refused to give us. We are calling on the COCOBOD not to repeat same next year,” the chief said.
He expressed his dissatisfaction with how the COCOBOD neglected the cocoa farmers this year in distributing the cocoa seedlings.
Mr Mohammed added the development has really affected their activities and appealed to COCOBOD to ensure fair distribution of cocoa seedlings in the area.
Mincing no words, the Zongo chief urged the farmers across the country to avoid releasing their farmlands for galamsey operators, but they should protect it for the future.
“I will advise the farmers not to give their cocoa farms for illegal miners. They should protect it for the future,” he concluded.
