General The Secretary of the largest opposition party NDC Asiedu Nketiah has expressed concern over some Chief's involvement in partisan politics.

According to him, their active participation in politics is preventing them from resolving issues the arise among politicians.

He condemned some chiefs who are at the forefront of handpicking parliamentary candidates saying it was wrong and against the agenda of unity of purpose.

He called on traditional leaders to refrain from partisan politics but work with the government of the day and focus on preaching unity and love in the country. He admonished Chiefs to stay away from politics for their own good.

He said Chiefs who get involved in politics can tarnish their image as well as destroying their integrity, however, the dignity of being a chief can only be restored by being neutral and treating everyone equally.

He noted that the chieftaincy institution played a pivotal role during a political crisis, and implored chiefs to continue to play their roles with all the respect they deserve. He stressed that Chiefs who actively participate in politics suffer when the party they support goes out of office.

He however lauded chiefs for their contribution in developing the country and their involvement in promoting democracy.

He made this known in an engagement with the Bono Regional House of Chiefs yesterday as part of John Mahama’s thank you tour visit to the Bono Region.
