Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Inaugurates Young Soldiers Accommodation as He calls for Vigilance Against Terrorists Threat in Africa.                               

On the threat of terrorism, the CDS commented that terrorism in the West Africa sub-region has become a threat but urged its officers and men to be vigilant all the time to be ready on alert against any possible terrorist attack against the country.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama has charged his officers and men to remain very vigilant to counter any terrorist threat in the country, stressing that they must not take the "See Something Say Something" policy lightly but to be ready for any eventuality.  

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama was delivering an address at the inaugural ceremony of a 220-capacity young soldiers accommodation at the 154 Armoured Regiment stationed at the third Garrison of Sunyani in the Bono Region.  

The CDS was accompanied on the trip to Sunyani by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall, Frank Hanson. 

He was met on arrival by the Commanders at the Third Garrison, namely the Commander of the Third Battalion of Infantry, Lt. Colonel John Kwarteng, the Commander of the 154 Armoured Regiment, Lt. Col Kofi Obiri Yeboah, and the Commander of the Armoured Training School, Lt. Col Dominic Buah as well as the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene.  

The CDS' first engagement was an inspection of ongoing projects at the regiment which includes the accommodation units at various stages of completion. 

He also inspected facilities at the Armoured Training School and spent time with wives of the soldiers who were engaged in a Skills Training Programme in soap and bead-making training among other skills.  

The high point of the visit was the inauguration of the new accommodation block for young soldiers. The facility has come at a better time as it will resolve a challenge if some young soldiers sleeping in tents at the regiment.

The CDS again said, as they wait for help from the Government in addressing the infrastructural challenges confronting them, the Armed Forces are doing their utmost to meet the needs of their soldiers struggling for accommodation.  


On the threat of terrorism, the CDS commented that terrorism in the West Africa sub-region has become a threat but urged its officers and men to be vigilant all the time to be ready on alert against any possible terrorist attack against the country.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah added that the provision of the Young Soldiers Quarters is evidence of the resolve of the Ghana Army to address challenges affecting its increasing number of soldiers. 

He added that similar infrastructure projects have been initiated by the Army and are ongoing in various barracks across the country.  

The Commander of the 15 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Dzandu Hedidor, in his welcome address said, the accommodation has come as a great relief to him and the young soldiers of the 154 Armoured Regiment and commended the government for his support to the Ghana armed forces.
