The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has advised Muslims and non-Muslims alike to adhere to the new directives spelt out by President Akufo-Addo in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

The spiritual head has especially asked Muslims to ensure that the protocols are strictly adhered to in mosques because, as he put it, COVID-19 is real.

He said “as Muslims, we are enjoined to respect constituted authority. The President has addressed the nation about the COVID-19 situation and spelt out measures to contain the virus. It behoves us to adhere to these protocols as good Muslims. After all, it is in our own interest and the nation’s to stay healthy by avoiding activities which can endanger our lives and others.”

His admonition comes in the wake of the President’s 23rd update on the COVID-19 situation in the country and the measures to arrest the situation.

In the address, Akufo-Addo reimposed the ban on social gatherings.

The president indicated that burials can be held with not more than twenty-five attendees.

“Until further notice, funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performance and parties are banned. Private burials with not more than 25 people can take place with the enforcement of the social distancing, hygiene and mask-wearing protocols. Beaches, nightclubs, cinemas and pubs continue to be shut. Our borders by land and sea remain closed. All workplaces, public and private must implore a shift system for workers in addition to the use of virtual platforms for business or work.”

“Conferences and workshops can take place with all the appropriate protocols however I encourage the use of virtual platforms for such engagements. Restaurants should provide away services and should as much as possible avoid seated services. The National Sports Authority and the Ghana Football Association should ensure compliance with the 25% capacity rule with spectators respecting the social distancing rule and wearing of the mask,” he said

Nana Addo implored Ghanaians to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols.

He warned that anyone found breaking the new directive will be severely dealt with
