Bono East Holds National Energy Transition Plan Stakeholders Consultation Meeting

As part of efforts to assess the current situation in the Energy Sector, the risk and cost of the global energy transition and to prescribe risk mitigation measures the Bono East Region has engaged stakeholders consultation meeting at Techiman.

In his welcome address the Bono East Regional Minister, Honorable Kwasi Adu Gyan urged the participants to come out with ideas as a country to adjust to the ever-increasing petroleum prices which is gradually becoming a new normal.

He also observed that the effects of global warming primarily caused by the emission of greenhouse gases through the use of fossil fuels are becoming increasingly event, with the cost to humanity becoming increasingly prohibitive and it is therefore imperative that we take actions to slow down climate change and put in place preventive measures to address the cost associated with it as soon as practicable, including cost arising from the transition from the use of fossil to renewables.

The National Energy Transition Committee was set up on 17th December 2021 to solicit the view of all stakeholders for the formulation of a nationally - inclusive Energy Transition Plan.

This is to achieve the nationally determined contributions under the Paris Climate Change Compact by shifting from thermal-based electricity generation.

The platform was a good opportunity to engage the deputy ministers of energy and transport, Mr. Anthony Dzradzra and Mr. Frederick Obeng Addo, and also MMDCEs and other opinion leaders in the region to share ideas on this energy transition plan.

On behalf of the chiefs and the people of the Bono East Region, Honorable. Kwasi Adu Gyan thanked the organizers, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Transport, and all the other stakeholders who made the program a success.
