Ali Suraj of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pinpointed Hon. Muntaka Mubarak to be blamed if there is a blood bath in the Asawase constituency between landowners of Buobai and a group known as Landlords Association on 19.64 acres of land in the Asokore Mampong Municipal.

The former NPP organizer in the United States of America bemoaned that the Asawase Member of Parliament has the power to resolve the issue once and for all due to his attachment to Ghana’s executive instrument.

“Hon. Muntaka should please help us because he knows better,” he said.

“If he thinks this land belongs to the government, he should take this case to parliament. They can discuss this issue and set up a committee by consulting the Local Government Ministry to investigate and take necessary action.

“If you remember there was a courtroom Muntaka built at Aboabo. Hon. Alidu Seidu said he wanted to use the courtroom for a hospital because the community lacked one. Immediately [Hon] Muntaka took the case to parliament. The Local Government called Alidu Seidu and asked him to stop.

“The case is still impending in parliament and that is justice. He has done it before and can do it again.

“We don’t want any fight. If there is, then we’ll ask Muntaka,” he ended.

Recalling the incident, SoireeNews reported on Thursday, August 13, 2020, that ‘legitimate’ landowners of Buobai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality have pleaded to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to help them retrieve their nine-acre land from unknown land guards.

Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed initially handled the matter according to the leader of the possessors, Ismahil Omar before he handed it over to the then Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong, Nuru Hamidan.

The case has been resolved by the Asantehene per the report of the current Kenyaasehene granting the buyers from the former chief of Kenyasi to start works on the land yet angry land guards have threatened to manslaughter anyone who steps foot on the property.

Alidu Suraj believes the land dispute has existed for years and it is time for justice to be served to give the asset to the fitting owner.

“This land issue has been going on since 2011 during the NDC regime under the control of the Asawase MP, Hon Muntaka and the then MCE, Hon. Nuru Hamidan,” he communicated.

“This is the best time this issue needs to be brought to an end. We cannot disrespect the citizens of the country especially the Zongos in Asawase.

“We should be fair and just. Politics is not a way to deceive and cheat people. Politics is a way to help contribute to the movement of the constituency or try to take food to the people's table to eat so that after enjoying, they will thank you for the service,” he clarified.

He advised that this is not the time to abuse each other with words but to make sure that peace prevails as the country battles the novel pandemic and prepares to go on polls. He entreated Hon. Muntaka to be of a good example to the society that chose him as their leader.

“I have granted interviews towards this dispute but he [Hon. Muntaka] has insulted me yet we should not be the same. Even though he is a senior, I have learned from him and will never insult him. This is the time to prove to the people that tomorrow we can be better leaders."

He called on the Chief Imam, elders, political parties and citizens to be involved in order to end the land dispute and refrain from violence. He once again drew the attention of the media that should any disaster happen, the Member of Parliament is to blame.

“Muntaka must treat this case as an emergency. By Monday 6 am, we want to hear something. If by Monday to Friday, we don’t hear anything and something happens, we must ask Muntaka.”
