The Chief of Bibiani in the Bibiani Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Nana Ngoah Anyimah Kodom II, has lashed out a blistering attack at Asante Gold Corporation, the gold mining company operating in Bibiani accusing the company of not showing respect to him and his cultural heritage.
Fuming with anger, the Bibiani traditional rulers stated that the Asante Gold Corporation and has no respect for customs and traditions of Bibiani let alone the laws of the country saying that the company has entered into their no go areas to clear the places without his knowledge and approval.
Speaking in an interview with Soireenews. com via telephone call on Friday August 18, 2023, Nana Ayima emphasized that the "mining firm operating in his community's behaviour look as if Bibiani belongs to them they do things any how without the consulting the community, chief and the opinion leaders."
According to him, just recently that he had an information that there is ongoing Road diversion of the Bibiani-Goaso Road by the Mines is he Awere and he said no.
"So l have decided to use the road and see for himself and it was true that such works was going on without the motives of the owners of the land," the chief stated.
However he and his community have kicked against ongoing road diversion and called on the company to immediately halt the project for peace to be prevail in the area.
He added that, that place in which the road diversion seems to pass is the sacred place of the gods of the land and he will never allowed this activity to take place there and disturb the gods.
"I and elders are meeting the management of the company this morning [Friday August 18, 2013] to tell the company our side of the issue concerning the disaster the company has committed which has affected our gods in Bibiani. We are going to fine the management of the mining company to pay snachps, rams, four cows to appease the gods," Nana Ngoah Anyimah Kodom II told Soireenews.com.
Nana Ayima further added that, the mining company has an agreement to resettle the affected communities but promises of the company has not been fulfilled.
"And after taking away the gold which is resit in the Bibiani-Goaso major road and pack away the community will not let him rest unless the resettlement is done in the first place.
For his part, the Chairman of the Resettlement Negotiation Committee (RNC), Mr. Maxwell Nkrumah also added that they are calling on  the Ministry of Roads and Highways to as quickly as possible to come to examine the road diversion.
The scores of the residents expressed their dissatisfaction about the activities of the Mines and it's effect on them as community and no body is saying anything to them and this time around they will resist with the final drop of their blood.
