Authorities are looking into the security guard's shooting outside Drake's Toronto residence

Inspector Paul Krawczyk of Toronto Police stated at a press conference that when police arrived at the residence on Tuesday at around two in the morning local time, they discovered a seriously injured guy who was being sent to the hospital.

According to officials, the security guard was shot while performing his duties outside the home's gate.

In critical condition, he is still in the hospital. While Krawczyk did not address whether Drake was present at the house when the shooting occurred, he did state that the artist's team is in communication with the police and is assisting with the inquiry.

A five-time Grammy Award winner known for hits like "Nice For What," Drake is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.

The Recording Industry Association of America recognized him last year for becoming the first artist to sell more than 200 million units.

When asked by journalists if the shooting had anything to do with the recent feud Drake has been involved in with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar, Krawczyk said no motive has been determined to this day.

He added that investigators are reviewing video of the incident. Representatives for Drake declined to comment when reached by CNN.

With each of their songs featuring personal and professional insults that have sparked online debate among their fans, Drake and Kendrick Lamar's lyrical war has recently heated up.

Lamar's representatives were unavailable at the time of writing.
