A Midwife of the Sampa Government Hospital in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, Madam Beatrice Bonna Tamea, has advised pregnant women to attend hospital on time and eat nutritious foods to avoid congenital abnormalities.

A Midwife of the Sampa Government Hospital in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, Madam Beatrice Bonna Tamea, has advised pregnant women to attend hospital on time and eat nutritious foods to avoid congenital abnormalities.
 
According to the health female practitioner, all the women should be cautious of the kind of food they consume at their fertile age and also must frequently attend hospital to prevent congenital ailments caused by problems during the fetus's development before birth.
She indicated that it is important for women to be healthy and have good medical care before and during pregnancy to reduce the risk of preventable congenital anomalies. 
Madam Tamea made the call when she was speaking  in an on Gye Nyame FM's Monday evening programme dubbed "You and Your Health Chaired By Kwaku Mensah Abrampa."
 
She indicated that birth defects, congenital disorders, or congenital malformations conditions develop prenatally and may be identified before or at birth, or later in life hence the need for parents, especially women to eat nutritious foods to prevent it.
For her part, A Pediatric Nurse at the Sampa Government Hospital, Madam Anna Bosomtwe highlighted some congenital abnormalities related conditions.
These included cleft palate or cleft lip, a birth defect in which a baby's roof of the mouth and upper lip doesn't form completely and has an opening in it, Omphalocele, a birth defect of the abdominal wall, macrocephaly, a birth defect in which a baby's head is larger than how it should be, esophageal atresia, a birth defect in which part of the baby's esophagus does not develop properly, gastroschisis and many other abnormalities that affect the unborn baby as a result of a deficiency in food nutrients and folic acid for the body to grow as expected.
