ASLA demands apology, withdrawal of threat from Electrochem Ghana Limited

Ada Songor Lagoon Association against Electrochem Ghana Limited(EGL) is demanding an unqualified apology from Electrochem Ghana Limited for what it termed a "Recent ultimatum of allowing the people of Adaali-Abime whose livelihood is drawn from Songor Lagoon up to January 31, 2023, to enable the company operates".

The group sees that ultimatum as unfortunate and lacking moral grounds. In a statement read by the Chief of Salom, Nene Dadebom Anim II, the group is affirming their resolve to resist in all uncertain terms to resist either Electrochem Ghana Limited or leaders coming near their working places, lands, or towns.

The group refuted claims that the government of Ghana mandated Electrochem Ghana Limited to operate. But the group clarified adding, " No Adaano bi received a pesewa in compensation for the lands Electrochem Ghana is claiming ownership of".

The group alleged that Electrochem Ghana Limited is using its connection in the Nana Akufo Addo's government to forcibly grab land and violently drive them out of the land".

Grounded in their conviction, the group highlighted the urgent need for the Provisional National Defense Council(PNDC) Law 287 and the master plan for the Salt Development at Ada to be immediately implemented.

ASLA is therefore appealing to the Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to render the mining license issued to McDan Group of Companies(MGC) null and void.

They concluded by asking the two Members of Parliament, Hon Comfort Doyoe and Hon Christian Otuteye their tale on the impasse.

"We want to know from the two Members of Parliament: Honourable Comfort Doyoe and Christian Otuteye if they also agree with the claims by Electrochem Ghana Limited or not".

The Divisional Queen Mother of Tekpebiawe clan, Naana Korleki Korley expressed her grievances on the atrocities caused by Electrochem Ghana Limited, therefore, describing it as distasteful.

She noted that chiefs who gave their consent to and appended their signatures to the agreement with Electrochem Ghana Limited did not the right to give away lands to the company.
