The Upper West Regional body has also charged its members to make available jingles at all terminals in educating people on coronavirus.

The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Upper West region has charged its members to practice the COVID-19 safety protocols in the fight against the pandemic.

This was made known on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, during a conference briefing held at the Nouyoung Empire Hotel in the Wa Municipality attended by executives of the Union branches across the Region.

Addressing its members was Alhaji Nuhu Mahama, the Senior Industrial Relations Officer of GPRTU in the region, called on every branch to place veronica buckets at bus terminals for washing of hands and must also enforce the wearing of nose masks by all users of the bus terminals.

According to Alhaji Mahama, a COVID-19 Inspection taskforce would be set up to continually monitor drivers and their assistants in order to met sanctions to those who fall foul to the wearing of nose masks during their journeys.

He stressed that travelling public must as well adhere to the safety protocols to help curb the spread of the disease in the region and the nation at large.

In addition, he directed the unions to have posters placed at vantage points at bus terminals insisting on 'No Nose Mask, No Entry' so that any passenger without a mask cannot board a bus at the terminal.

Alhaji Mahama also emphasized that Unions must provide hand sanitisers for passengers to use before boarding a bus.

The regional body also charged its members to make available jingles at all terminals in educating people on the need to observe the safety protocols. As a result, the union is calling on the government to effect a ban on social gatherings such as funerals, marriage ceremonies, outdooring and among many.

The GPRTU  sought the cooperation of the security agencies and the media to be able to prosecute this agenda in this hard times of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Upper West Region is reported to have recorded 161 cases with 38 active, 1 in critical condition and 4 dead.
