Dani Ceballos is set to return to the Emirates after his season loan spell expired at the close of the campaign.

Arsenal’s former manager, now with Villareal, Unai Emery, acquired the 24-year old but his performance at the opening half of last season was not stirring even when Arteta arrived.

Improvement on his development since the restart convinced the former Manchester City assistant manager to seek for a loan extension for another season following the player’s expression of being happy at the Emirates although Madrid has the final say on his career.

"The truth is that I'm happy at Arsenal," Ceballos told Sky Sports.

"It's a club where I've already had a year's experience, so it would be easy for me to go back.

"I wouldn't have to adapt to a new club or a new league.

"I think it would be a good step for me, but my future depends on Madrid and I still don't know what their decision is."

Sky Sports reports that the Gunners are in advance talks with Los Blancos for the services of the former Real Betis midfielder and an agreement is sure to be made between both clubs in the coming days.

"Arsenal in advanced talks with Real Madrid over a deal to sign midfielder Dani Ceballos on another season-long loan,” Dharmesh Sheth reported.

"There is an increased confidence a deal can be struck in the coming days.

"Head Coach Mikel Arteta has spoken openly about his desire to bring Ceballos back to the Emirates. Arteta also confirmed the player’s desire to return.

"Ceballos is keen to be playing regular football ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

"Real have 33 senior players in their ranks and are looking to trim their squad."

Arteta has already acquired Willian from Chelsea with further additions expected. Arsenal won the Community Shield on Saturday after a shoot out victory against the Premier League champions, Liverpool at Wembley.

They will open their current campaign with Fulham at the Craven Cottage on September 12.
