Amakye Dede admitted in a recent interview that he did not  chose to call the young artist by that name.

The renowned Highlife artist's statement supports what his manager claimed a few days after the coronation on live radio.

"They want Amakye Dede to crown Kuami Eugene as part of his performance," the manager stated, "and I told him I had to speak to my artiste about that. KiKi Banson, who was in charge of the artiste repertoire for this year's VGMAs, contacted to let him know that.

"When [I] told Amakye Dede about it, he wasn't in favor of it, so I was surprised to see him act against his will,"
