Alisson Becker has lost his father after being drowned in a lake near his holiday home in Brazil on Wednesday, Sky Sports reports.

The Liverpool goalkeeper is the second to lose a family following the demise of Jurgen Klopp’s mother Elizabeth Klopp two weeks ago in Germany.

A police inspector in the town of Lavras do Sul, Doroteo Machado Filho, told Reuters that 57-year old Jose Becker had been swimming in a dam on his property when the accident happened.

His body was reported missing at around 5 pm local time and the Police reports that Mr Becker’s body was found late in the evening. Suspicion and foul play have been ruled out of the demise of Jose Becker, as a number of top Brazilian clubs have begun pouring out their condolences to the family.

Jose Becker has been an inspiration to his children, Allison and Muriel in their career as goalkeepers.

Alisson on July 19, 2018, was officially confirmed by Liverpool for a fee of £66.8 million (€72.5 million), making him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time. The former AS Roman goalkeeper revealed how he was influenced by his father in his footballing career.

“I have a family of goalkeepers,” he said.

“My father played for his work team, my mother played handball in school, and my grandfather played in amateur football.

“And after all this, came my brother playing and then I started to like it, too.”

He has also won 44 caps for Brazil and was named FIFA Best Men's Goalkeeper in 2019. His arrival at Anfield has seen Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup trophies.
